At Flourish Medical, we encourage all candidates to register with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Update Service. It’s a simple, cost-effective way to keep your DBS certificate valid, making it quicker and easier to start new roles while ensuring compliance with safeguarding standards.

What is the DBS Update Service?

The DBS Update Service is an annual subscription that allows you to:

  • Keep your DBS certificate up to date without needing to apply for a new one each time you change roles.
  • Give employers permission to check your DBS certificate online instantly.

You can register either during your DBS application or within 30 days of receiving a new DBS certificate.

  • Cost: £16 per year
  • Payment methods: Direct debit or credit card

How to Register with the DBS Update Service

You can register for the service either during your DBS application or after receiving your certificate.

  • If applying for a new DBS:
    • You’ll need your application reference number (‘form ref’).
    • The DBS must receive your application within 28 days of the start date.
  • If you already have a DBS certificate:
    • You’ll need your certificate number.
    • Registration must be completed within 30 days of the certificate being issued.

Information required to register:

  • Full name, gender, date of birth
  • Email address
  • DBS application reference number and/or certificate number
  • Payment details (bank account or card)

You can register directly via the GOV.UK DBS Update Service.

Keeping Your DBS Certificate Safe

Even with the Update Service, employers and schools still need to verify your original DBS certificate. Please keep it safe, as you will need to present it when starting new roles through Flourish Medical.
